Army Recruits to be issued iPhones.

Interesting article about the pilot program going forward for recruits to be issued iPhones at Ft. Leonard Wood and Ft. Sill. Soldiers, while in training will be able to download Army manuals, etc., and be able to read them during down time, or when they are in line waiting for chow.

Social networking is becoming an increasing way for the Army to get out its "story". Not sure if they will be required to blog while in training, but I foresee this requirement in the future. I am not sure if issuing iPhones is such a good idea for initial entry Soldiers. I forsee many issues with Soldiers abusing the iPhone, etc. Phone calls while in training, texting while in training, taking photos while in training (not to mention the issue when male and females are training together), and a host of other discipline issues.

Soldiers will not only get the iPhones for free, but their bills will also be paid for. The iPhones are to be turned in after completion of training, but iPhones will be used for recruiting purposes. It is an interesting recruiting idea, for the current generation of computer literate young adults.

I will be interested to hear pros and cons for this new recruiting tool.
